Abstract	The new APM South Equatorial Strip Catalog $({-}17\sp\circ.5<\delta<2\sp\circ.5)$ is used to select a sample of early-type galaxies in three directions: (1) 15h10-16h10; (2) 20h30-21h50; (3) 00h10-01h30. The distances and peculiar motions of galaxies in these regions are investigated for the first time. New R-band CCD photometry and spectroscopic data for $\sim$300 galaxies are used. Azimuthally averaged surface brightness profiles are fitted as the sum of bulge and disk components, and a correction for seeing is applied. The total magnitude $m\sb{tot}$ and the half-light parameters $r\sb{1/2},\ \mu\sb{1/2},$ and $\langle\mu\rangle\sb{1/2}$ are derived. Fourier cross correlation is used to determine the redshift and velocity dispersion $\sigma$ of logarithmically-rebinned spectra. Velocity dispersions are corrected for aperture effects. Linestrengths are derived from flux-calibrated spectra. The Fundamental Plane distance-indicator relation is calibrated with Coma cluster data. The coefficients are fitted by minimising orthogonal residuals from the plane. Monte Carlo simulations are used to determine the bias in the coefficients, and a correction for incompleteness is made. The Coma Fundamental Plane is best described by log $r\sb{1/2}=1.247\ \log\ \sigma + 0.348 \langle\mu\rangle\sb{1/2}\ {-}8.815,$ with a measured scatter equivalent to a distance uncertainty of 19.4%. Distances are found and transformed from diameter distances to true distances. A correction for inhomogeneous Malmquist bias is applied using the galaxy density distribution from the new IRAS PSC 0.6 Jy redshift survey. Distance estimates are combined with measured redshifts to obtain peculiar velocities. A linear bulk-flow model is fitted to the data in each sample region. It can be ruled out that the observed galaxies participate in the large-scale bulk flow postulated by Lauer & Postman (1994). The observed velocities are compared with the peculiar velocities predicted from the IRAS PSC redshift survey. Mass concentrations beyond 10 000 km s$\sp{-1}$ are not needed to explain the observed motions.
