From Eli Burakian '00, College Photographer: "I arrived on campus last Friday during the wee hours of the morning hoping to catch an aurora borealis light show. Unfortunately, due to a much smaller display than expected an increasingly cloudy sky, nothing could be seen from Hanover. But I was already awake and wandering around campus, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to catch the almost-full moon setting behind Baker tower. With the late hour and absolutely frigid temperatures, Hanover was a ghost town. The artificial lights provided a nice warm hue, and the thin layer of clouds diffused the moonlight so that it too had a warm tonality and a lowered brightness. Since the moon sets in the west, I tried to find a position just to the east of the library and I eventually set up my tripod on the road that goes up in front of Wilder Hall, next to the Zantop memorial garden. The key was finding an elevation that put the moon next to the tower. The final exposure was 1.3 seconds at f/2.8, ISO 400 on my Sony SLT A99." Posted on Flickr January 10, 2014
