Hometown: Moore, Okla. Degree: Master of Arts in Liberal Studies. Skylar Smith, a 2013 liberal studies graduate of Oklahoma State University, likes to keep her career goals broad: to enrich the lives of others through the arts, and promote an atmosphere of learning and creativity. At Dartmouth, she wrote her thesis on the depiction of women in World War I American recruitment posters. She completed her MALS degree in under two years while putting in 50-hour work weeks as a teaching assistant for both the Institute for Writing and Rhetoric and the Russian department and as BarHop event manager at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. She also carved out time to travel for dance weekends (ballroom, salsa, and West Coast swing). After graduation, Smith will work at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation as a program associate for its Voices and Visions program, an initiative that pairs quotes from Jewish thinkers with graphic designers who create thought-provoking art about ethics, religion, and humanity. Favorite place on campus: the Tower Room in Baker Library. "Being surrounded by the books and beautiful architecture both humbles and challenges me to rise up to the level of the leaders, thinkers, and innovators who came here before me."
